Buwan ng Wika showcases the linguistic and cultural diversity of the Philippines. Throughout August, the Filipino Department coordinates a series of weekly academic and cultural competitions:
-
Literary Arts: Sabayang Bigkas (choral speech), Pagsulat ng Sanaysay (essay writing), Tulawit (poetry and singing), and Balagtasan (traditional poetic debate).
-
Visual Arts: On-the-spot poster-making, slogan design, and classroom cultural transformation contests focused on regional Filipino customs.
-
Traditional Games: Laro ng Lahi tournaments featuring Patintero, Tumbang Preso, Luksong Baka, and Sipa during physical education classes and break times.
-
Culminating Showcase: A school-wide festival where students and faculty wear authentic regional attire (Barong Tagalog, Balintawak, Filipiniana, and indigenous weaves). The day opens with folk dance presentations representing Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, followed by a communal Salu-Salo or Boodle Fight featuring traditional local dishes.
